WINDARRA BANKS TRIP 22/8

27 Aug 2010

Windarra banks what can i say, well it was Awesome, Fantastic, Exciting a place we will be visiting alot more!!!

730am We all meet at the boat load up all the gear and head out to start our trip to the windarra’s which takes around an hour and a half. According to the weather report it should be close to perfect  but as we head over the bar and get out a couple of mile we soon realised they got the weather report wrong again! There was around 10-14knots of wind and the water was green!

So we took the gamble and continued to head south, the first 15 miles the water was green but then it started to change colour in a good way when we were around 2 mile away from the mark the water went a nice blue colour and there was only a slight current heading south a rare thing Windarra’s is extremely current prone. As we approached the mark we sounded around trying to find the pinnacle and there it was coming up from 50m to 20m with a large plato of around 24 meters droping away off the edges.

We dropped the pik and geared up, as we all jumped in there was a slight current so we all decended down the anchor rope. When we got to the bottom there was schools of king fish, small tuna a few big rays and a couple of nice big grey nurse. The landscape down there was incredible with great big ledges and drop off nice big pinnacles with bait fish hanging round the top an incredible dive.

After the first dive we had a few snaggs in bread for lunch and then we jumped in for the second dive on this dive we went a little further around one ledge and found a nice sized grey nurse Check out the video!!!
