KINGSCLIFF PINNACLE!!! 20/6
Today started out sitting in the dive shop answering the phones doing the book work, just what every body wants to do on a Sunday!!! (yukkk)
Around mid morning i received a call from the boat telling me how good the conditions were out there and that there was little if any current. So we made the decision, a quick couple of calls to a few divers who are always ready to jump in at the last minute and we were off heading to the jetty ready to jump on the boat and head out when it returned. Once the boat parked at the wharf we quickly loaded all the gear and were off 35 min later we were looking strait down at the top of the pinnacle!!! so we new we had minimum 15 meters visibility and no current. So we got geared up and in we went strait off the bow with a big splash always fun!!
Once down on top of the pinnacle we followed a small gutter off the side and descended down to 30 meters from there we set off to the south heading around the bottom of the pinnacle, we weaved in and out of huge chunks of rock were there was a couple of small caves full of crayfish a few little swim throughs in between and an incredible amount of fish life with black coral trees scattered here and there. As we continued around the bottom of the pinnacle we came across a small school of king fish in rush going somewhere fast. Then we started slowly swimming our way back up the edge towards the top of the pinnacle, were there was a huge school of yakka’s (yellow tail) that were being chased and eaten by the king fish. Once back on top of the pinnacle there was amazing abundance of small soft corals with anemones scattered in between. From there we came up did our safety stop and broke the surface, nobody could hold the smiles back!! We couldn’t wait to change our tanks over and get back in.
I would tell you about the second dive considering it was more fun then the first with big swim throughs, but it would be better if you came and saw it for yourself!!
